No Meat Athlete - A Site for Vegetarian Runners

As a vegetarian athlete, sometimes it's hard to follow along with some of the more mainstream  running sites.  I don't really care about what salmon will do for me and I'm not really into fish oil supplements and I definitely can't get down with using some of the chemically supplements of gels.  Which is why I like No Meat Athlete.

I first discovered this site a year or so ago before I ran my first marathon.  I found them by searching for "how to survive your first marathon" and once I read that post, I found quite a few others that were humorous and helpful. ("The Indoorsman's Guide to Trail Running" is my personal fave!)

I recently purchased a "no meat athlete" shirt to represent my people at races because I think the running carrot is adorable and although I'm not the preachy vegetarian type, it's nice to let people know that you can compete (or in my case, just participate) in sporting events if you lead a meat free life.  Heck, I keep reading more and more articles about some of the "big time" athletes going vegan, so I think it should seem strange for us "weekend warrior" types to live that kind of lifestyle.

Do you have a favorite sports related site/blog?

  1. I am a no meat athlete too! I purchased a shirt 2 years ago or so, and I wear it to most races, and race in it when the weather is colder. I have to wear tanks when running in wearmer weather. But I have had so many people come up to me asking me where I got my shirt and stuff. Veggie runners are the best! :) And my husband sometimes sings a little song in a high-pitched voice when he has had 1 too many beers. It goes like this: " 'I'm a No Meat Ath LETE na na na NAAAAA na NA!" hehe :)
