Walk of Shame

No, not that kind of walk of shame.

I spent the majority of my day yesterday in urgent care after a freak running injury. After running 5 miles and feeling great (which is unusual), I felt some sort of snap, felt some burning, and then I wasn't able to put any pressure on my foot. That's pretty unfortunate, right? (since I've been running and training like a maniac)

What made it worse was that I was 2 miles away from home. Yep. 2 long miles. I didn't have my cell phone with me and it wouldn't have really mattered because my boyfriend wasn't home and I don't really know anyone in our neighborhood.

My walk started out at a brisk pace. I favored my good foot and tried to keep moving so I could eventually get home. By the end, I was at a snail's pace, practically hopping. It was the longest 2 mile walk of my life. At one point, I was half tempted to just sit under a tree on someone's lawn so that they would call the cops on me and I could get a ride home.

The misery continued at urgent care where I waited for nearly 4 hours. I appreciate what the folks there do, but they weren't really moving around like anything was too urgent. The doctor told me I have either a sprain, a stress fracture, or a tendon injury. Deja vu from last year with my other foot. I'm hoping that wearing hot ace bandages and a really uncomfortable air cast will help me heal quickly so I'm not immobilized all summer. But at least this time if I have a more serious injury, I know of a great orthopedic specialist and can hopefully expedite the healing process.

Back to your regularly scheduled vegetarian programming tomorrow when I'm less bummed out about the whole situation.

  1. I am never treated as urgently as I think I should in urgent care or the ER :( I hope you heal quickly!
