Countdown to the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon

I've mentioned that I'm a runner, but I'm a reluctant runner. I don't think I'm "built" to be a runner (like my naturally skinny boyfriend who could probably complete a marathon without training for it) My body doesn't enjoy running as much as my head does. But if there's one thing I'm not, it's a quitter.

Last year, I attempted to train to run in the Cleveland Half Marathon. By over-doing it with training, I badly mangled a tendon in my ankle and spent the majority of the summer in a cast and overall, pretty miserable. So this year, I've tried to set more realistic goals for myself. New Year's resolution #1 was to complete a 2 mile race, a 5K, a 5 mile race, a 10k, a 10 mile race, and if time and training allow - a half marathon.
I might be jinxing myself by saying this, but it's only May, and I'm already up to the 10k mark. Well, almost. I've signed up to run in the Cleveland Marathon 10k on May 17. I wish I were able to run that far, but hopefully with my more realistic goals this year, I'm less likely to get seriously injured.

I'm really excited to be a part of the marathon weekend. I've always seen video of the Cleveland Marathon on the news and wished I could be there. Runners, in general, are pretty happy people. At least from what I've seen. Everyone is so supportive and enthusiastic for complete strangers. I'm sure this race will be no different. A few of my friends will be running alongside me, and I can't wait for us all to cross that finish line and accomplish a running goal together.

BTW - it's not too late to
sign up for the 10K, half-marathon, or marathon - running or walking divisions. If you plan on being there, I'll see you at the finish line. If you don't plan on running, there are still a bunch of fun things to do during marathon weekend. Check out Positively Cleveland's Marathon Guide.
