Vegetarian Mondays at Lago

This past Monday, my boyfriend and I went to Lago in Tremont for Vegetarian Monday - where in addition to the regular menu, the chef offers a special menu with only vegetarian and vegan dishes. Everything on the menu sounded delicious - from red peppers stuffed with goat cheese risotto, to a vegan Caesar salad, to sun dried tomato gnocchi in a garlic cream sauce. There really was a little bit of everything on the special Monday night only menu.

My meatatarian boyfriend started his meal with a Caesar salad. He can be a picky salad eater but he said it was one of the best salads he's ever eaten. For his meal he had lobster gnocchi. I really thought he was going to lick his plate because he thought his entree was so good. (The gnocchi actually did look really good, and it made me wish I'd ordered the vegetarian version.)

I started my meal out with a peach cosmo. Who knew a peach cosmo could be so delicious? This could be my new favorite martini.

I followed the martini with one vegetarian specials - a bok choy salad. It was a warm salad and had a ginger vinaigrette mixed in with bok choy and carrots. I'd never eaten so much non cooked bok choy in one sitting, but I really enjoyed my salad.

For my entree, I ordered grilled tofu in a balsamic reduction over roasted red peppers and asparagus. It tasted as good as that sounds. I think it's hard to prepare tofu correctly, and this was perfectly cooked and seasoned.

In addition to the amazing food, the ambiance at Lago is really amazing. With dark woodwork, nice linens and table settings, along with beautiful murals on the wall, I don't think it's possible to not have a romantic evening. (unless you're there with your mother or something - then that would just be weird) If you're looking for a romantic evening or a place to share a special occasion, Lago is it. Show the vegetarian or vegan in your life some love by taking them out for a special evening or just give it a try and see how great meatless eating can be.

  1. Wow - love this place and their food, but I never realized they did this. How exciting for us veggies. I will definitely be there as soon as I can. Thanks for this post! Not sure how I've missed you amidst all the great CLE food blogs. If interested in wine, please check mine out as well.

    Cheers!

  2. Dear Roxetta,

At the moment we're running a campaign to try to get the government in Taiwan to organise an official meat free Monday nationwide.

It's for this reason that we've set up a petition, we need as many people to sign it as possible.
Could you please sign and spread this petition to as many people as you can? Here's the link

    Any help would be great.

    Yours sincerely

    Aseem
