Chicago - Day Two

Wednesday was a looonnng work day, which made me really want to go out and blow off some steam that evening. Matias picked up Lucia and I and took us to The Chicago Diner. I try to visit at least one vegetarian resataurant when I'm traveling, and since the diner is so famous, I thought I should go there for sure. We started out our meals with a smorgasboard of apps - chipotle sour cream potato skins, pesto hummus and pita, and vegan nachos with seitan. Everything was good, but the chipotle flavor in the potato skins was to die for! For my entree, I had the parmesean chickin. It's your standard breaded fake chicken fare. Mine was a little bit overcooked, and I hardly got any sauce so I wasn't overly impressed. For dessert, I got chocolate chip vegan cheesecake. I don't know why I do this to myself. 9 times out of 10 I hate vegan desserts. And I hated it. Matias and Lucia had some delicious rasberry and mint cake. I should have indulged, but I don't like cake all that much. Oh well...

After dinner we headed to the Mini Bar. A trendy-ish place with burly bouncers but hardly any crowd. Apparently it used to be the hip place to go...but was really empty when we were there. The ambiance was nice, though. But my drink was unmemorable. It's been less than a week and I don't even remember what I had. Whoops. Following our one drink at Mini Bar, we went to Hydrate to see a drag show. In my day, I've seen many a drag show, but nothing like this one. From gospel singing queens, to Jade, one of the stars of Ru Paul's drag race, to an interactive show with the head queen setting my friend Matias up, it was one hillarious and crazy night.

More to follow...
