What's that sound? Just the values of houses plummeting in my neighborhood

Cleveland Magazine, I want to thank you for alerting me to the fact that I live in one of the top 10 "bargain" cities in the greater Cleveland area. I'd really never pictured Lyndhurst to be a "bargain" type of city (unlike Eastlake, where I grew up - it's more than a bargain, that's for sure). But now that you've publicly called it one of the best bargains in the area, I'm looking forward to the value of my house plummeting even further than it has during the past few years. Hooray!

I am happy to learn that when I go running through my neighborhood and cross into Highland Heights or Mayfield Village, I'm in one of the top 15 safest cities in the area. But who knows what might happen to me once I get back into bargain bonanzaville.

You see how your Cleveland suburb stacks up in the new issue of Cleveland Magazine, coming to a newsstand near you sometime soon.

  1. How do you even read the "interactive" map at http://tinyurl.com/ctxcon ? The icons are un-intuitive and the numbers associated with them are useless. Two "books" for education seems pretty low for their #1 best suburb, and what the heck do the locks and numbers stand for? Did you notice that Willowick and Bay have 100% walkability? Is Parma really 98% walkable?

Plus, they want >$15 to give you information that the phone book and google maps gives out for free. Sounds like a bunch of people that skewed some data to make it reflect who made donations. I have to disagree with a lot of their ratings and think they look pretty biased.

  2. Lyndhurst is great, though! We just have to keep our neighborhoods good and safe and we'll be back, no worries!
